Leasing or Purchasing Commitment

36/48/60-Month Lease Contract: You are making a financial and obligatory commitment to a depreciating asset. The shorter the lease term, the larger the monthly lease payment.

Leasing Service Maintenance Agreement: Commonly a separate agreement and written annually. Why annual? You will be locked into the maintenance agreement for the year, and you are paying for the “services” up front…. Your annual service costs will increase at the copier dealer’s discretion.

Fluctuating Lease Cost: Lease agreements commonly carry clauses that monthly rates “are subject to change up to 15% if the cost of the equipment differs from the dealer’s estimate.”

Flexibility: Some leases will allow you to return equipment before the term ends, however you will always be responsible for the negative equity of the depreciating asset.

Service Response: Lease and service agreements will post a service response time. Their idea of “response” is phone contact. Their response time does not mean the service technician will be to your location. Remember, you have paid for the service agreement up front for the year.

Financial and Obligatory Commitment: In leasing you will be responsible for financial applications because you are committing financially to the machine for the term of the lease. At the end of the lease you will have options to return the equipment or buy out the lease. Should you decide to return the leased equipment, and not renew with the copier dealer, please read your lease termination clauses carefully. Commonly you will be responsible to package the machine to dealer’s specifications and ship the machine out of state. This is at your expense.
